Fireplace Screens Provide Safety and Beauty

We all love the allure of wood burning fireplaces, but you always need fireplace screens for safety reasons. There are so many types on the market today that it may be difficult to choose the right screen for you. One thing is for sure is you have to have one. Wood gives us a lovely fire, but it also crackles and sparks and this is where your fireplace screen comes in. Of course it does more than protect your home from sparks that may pop out on your floor. It also helps to control your heat and give your chimney help in venting the smoke to the outside.

Fireplace screens act as a closure to any air that may come into your room. A chimney will draw air up and out from any home. This could lead to a cool house and a larger heating bill, but screens can block this passage of air and insure that the temperature inside your home remains stable. This loss of heat can be prevented by adding glass doors on your fireplace and also adding outside air ducts to the inside of the fire box will cut down on any heat loss. Glass acts as a damper to reduce the warm air that is being drawn out when your fireplace is not in use.

Any new fireplace that is constructed today has to have air ducts and this may be the most important thing that you do. Fire burns oxygen and in a tightly sealed home, a fireplace can rob the home of the oxygen inside. You won't get the same effect when you have no fire there so the alternative is glass. If you have air ducts installed, then you need not worry about the problem a lot as the air ducts will provide what air the chimney needs and won't draw it from the room itself.

There are many different kinds that you can buy besides glass. Screens range from luxurious to custom made to the manufactured. The fireplace can become the focal point of your home, especially if you have a large mantle piece. It can hold your knick-knacks, a family picture hanging above it, stockings at Christmas time and many other possibilities. So if you can decorate around your fire place why not jazz it up in front and with the many styles available anything is possible. Your possibilities are endless.

Whatever your choice in fireplace screens, you are sure to enjoy your fireplace if it is maintained properly and safely. It will provide hours of pleasure and enjoyment for you, your family and friends. When it's not in use, there is no reason it can't look as stylish as the rest of your house with a fireplace screen made to suit your needs.
